David in the rain!!We decided to head up north this weekend to see the Kauri Coast where the famous Kauri trees are. Famous for their massive size, there are not many left in NZ now as they were logged or cut down for the gum they produce. We stayed in a really cool holiday park (which are dotted all around N.Z) in a small cabin in the middle of the Waipoua Forest. On Friday we drove through a storm which was on-going the whole 2 hour drive up from Auckland. When we arrived all the power had been cut-off in the park so it was torchlight, candles and an early night for us!!
The next day it rained and rained and rained some more! We spent the day exploring the forest and checking out the AWESOME and MASSIVE kauri trees - well worth the visit. At night we enjoyed a few drinks and sausage sarnies on the cabin porch.
Sunday was back to normal, weatherwise and after stopping at the lakes and having lunch at the awesome suntrapped 'funky fish' cafe, we visited the kauri museum. On the drive home we took in some sandy beaches along the west coastline on the way back down to Auckland.
