Haven't been away at the weekend for a while or in Rotorua since Andrew was here so were itching to get back there..the weather was a decent forecast so we packed up the car and left after work on friday for the few hours drive. Stayed at Holdens Bay Top 10 in an excellent and cosy little kitchen cabin.
On Saturday morning we decided to have a change of venue for breakie as we usually eat at 'Lime' or the awesome 'Fat Dog' cafe when we visit Rotorua ha ha. We took a drive to an amazing spot-'Wai-0-Tapu' mud pools where we had also visited before but is well worth seeing again, the geo-thermal activity there is the most impressive we've seen as the mud is so active splashing and spurting everywhere! Afterwards we visited Waimangu Valley which was a 4km walk around a hydrothermal and volcanic area which had so much to see. There was volcanic craters filled with boiling waters, hot springs, geyser sites, terraces formed from volcanic activity over hundreds of years...the place was unbelievable!
After a quick change back at the cabin we had some drinks at the 'Pig and Whistle' followed by a great meal at the legendary fat dog :) then even more drinks back at the bar whilst watching a local band.

your becoming quite the geophysicist!! Have you booked you opticians appointment yet? Thick black rims all the way! I suggest you also invest in a top of the range knitted tank-top, half-masters, and a pair of nasties. Phil J Paul
